Tools for School Kids Abroad Education Program
A collaboration between Community Empowerment Programs, Inc. and the Quaser Construction and Engineering Company of the Philippines. John McKnight began working on this project in April, 2010-2011 along with Myra Theresa Vasquez, CEPI's International Services Coordinator & Filipino Native. Since then the program has served 125 elementary school children and their families annually by providing English as a second language (ESL) instruction, uniforms, notebooks, pencils, technology equipment, and transportation services.
Since its start CEPI has partnered with a total of (10) teachers and school administrators from San Agustin Elementary School, Anahaway National High School, and the Luntad Elementary School located at Brgy. San Miguel, Palo, Leyte. Our current goal is to build a New Alternative-Learning-Center (ALC) and repair (3) schools for students in the Eastern Visayas Region of the Philippine. Many of the structures have not been upgraded since the late 1960's and your donations will help us accomplish this.
We're providing a list of the current construction needs below:
A. SEPTIC TANK’S | There is no cafeteria and kids are eating on top of the septic tank as their dining table! This is not sanitary and continues to pose a risk to sickness and potential disease
B. CLASS ROOM and CHAIR | Class rooms are very old, dirty and rusty. They have been used since 1960 when many schools were first built and when it rains the roof leaks and kids are grouped in one corner to keep the class going, and stay dry!
C. FACILITIES | Many Eastern Visayas School lack proper facilities! Kids are still receiving instruction on the class room flooring which is bare and sets on ground soil.
This partnership seeks to increase support in order to continue to develop modern facilities.Your generous support will enable us to make these much needed repairs and build new facilities through our Tools for School Kids Program. Donations are tax-deductible.
